Take Up Your Cross ~ Saving our Children

I was listening to Collin Smith this morning on Moody Radio. His message was what we as Americans need to hear, what we as Christians need to remember, to live and share with our children. He said that we need to take up our cross publicly and especially to show our children that there is sin in the world and we need Jesus Christ. We need redemption. Smith went on to say that we live in an affirmation society. I couldn't agree more. Even for non-Christians or any person living in these times, this modern culture of affirmation leads to mediocrity. In a society that affirms all behavior there is nothing to aspire to... we are already super stars. Smith read aloud the lyrics to Lady GaGa's song "Born this Way".  I paste here an small segment of those lyrics.

It doesn't matter if you love him or capital H-I-M
Just put your paws up
'Cause you were born this way, baby
My mama told me when I was young
We are all born superstars
She rolled my hair and put my lipstick on
In the glass of her boudoir
There's nothin' wrong with lovin' who you are
She said, 'cause He made you perfect, babe
So hold your head up,
girl and you'll go far
Listen to me when I say
I'm beautiful in my way
'Cause God makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born this way
Don't hide yourself in regret
Just love yourself and you're set
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born this way, born this way

There are many out there who will think that such lyrics are positive because we are born this way. We should be ok with who we are, no looking back, no criticism, nothing wrong with who we are cause God made us that way.  Smith says that this kind of dialogue with our children is damming. He says that it rejects all that Christ came to do for us which was to redeem us because we are sinners and there is no way to the Father without Him. I agree that we lose sight of what Christ did for us by not remembering we live in a fallen world. We were created by God but being born into this fallen world we have become corrupt... in fact, corrupted the moment we are born. We have to realize that sin is in us and that Christ bore our sins on the tree 1 Peter 24 so that we can be saved. Our children need to know this so that they too can be saved.
