There is life and death in the power of the tongue. I am a great sinner in that respect. I have all too often said the wrong thing to make myself appear better or stronger, or more self sufficient. That's prideful. I deal with that sin everyday and ask God for His forgiveness. We need to be Salt and Light and that means extending God's grace that he has given us, forgiving us our sins. To do that, all we have to do is extend God's word.
There are many instances that we can put this into practice. I heard a wonderful example just today on one of my favorite Christian radio stations. The speaker said that she was in a restaurant with her niece. The place was buzzing and their waitress was running between four tables. She forgot their order, she brought an order that they did not even ask for and then she disappeared. The young teenage niece said to her aunt, "this is poor service." The aunt said "yes, it is." They ate their dinner and then asked for the bill. The waitress brought and promptly with the eyes of the niece upon her, the aunt generously tipped the waitress and told her that she hoped it would make up for the bad day she was obviously having. The niece saw how grace is extended, and how words in that act are just as important. The tip and kind words for bad service was actually extending God's grace. We slip up everyday, we don't give good service to those around us or to God; yet, He forgives and extends His grace. Go out today, and extend God's grace which we so freely receive and he so freely gives ~ Matthew 10.
