Teach your children how to be in the world but not of it!

"The wealth of the rich is their fortress; the poverty of the poor is their destruction. The earnings of the godly enhance their lives, but evil people squander their money on sin"~ Proverbs 10: 15-16.

The last sentence ~ earnings of the godly enhance their lives, is very wise advice. It is not only for our children but also for all of us. As we have read in the Bible in Hebrews, we understand that we are in this world but not of it. This means that though we do find ourselves in this place, we don't have to be like it or become like it; as it is a fallen world it is a sinful world that leads to darkness and to death.

When your children display some talents or gifts no matter what age, help them by praying (which is the godly thing to do) to the Lord asking Him for direction so that their talents, skills or gifts are not wasted; and moreover, that whatever earnings come from using their talents/gifts/skills enhances their lives as godly people. And, it will enhance others.

If they have not exhibited a talent/skill or gift and seek something to do with their life, ask them to pray and to ask God to show them what it is that He is calling them to do for Him in this world. Remember, this world is a fallen world, a world of sin, of the flesh, and money is at the top of the list for those both of and in the world.

As children of God, we can find joy and peace and a full life by living according to God's Word. And, money is not to be our goal, nor should it be longed for. Yes, money does seem to make the world go around and it does for those who are of it and in it. We should ask then in that respect "whose world is it then"?

The world will go around and go better if we trust in the Lord!

  1. And, teach your children about the sin of the flesh in this world. That godly marriage is between a man and a woman. A godly marriage is for the purpose to procreate and to sanctify the male/female union. "It is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise ...regarded as descendants" ~ Romans 9:8. Some like to argue for their happiness and right to be happy. They argue by saying that there is no commandment "thou shall not be gay". They forget that homosexuality is a detestable sin - Leviticus. They forget that happiness is illusive and God never promised (s) happiness. He promises joy and peace. "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with it passions and desires" ~Gal 5:22-24.
